Women’s Circle: Voices
July 11, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Sacred Feminine Drum Circle
We will come together to play and sing, using the heartbeat of the drum and assorted percussion instruments for healing and fun! You’ll learn the basics of the Iyesa rhythms, from an ancient Yoruba tradition played for the goddess Oshun, and we’ll also play and sing for White Buffalo Woman. No experience necessary and all levels are welcome; if you have drums or shakers please bring them, though some instruments will be provided.
Led by LisaMaria Antonia; initiated over twenty years ago in Cuba as a priestess of Yemaya, the Great Mother goddess of the waters, she was a sacred singer and percussionist for Yoruba/Lukumi ceremonies. She has also trained intensively in Christian, Native American and Tibetan Buddhist traditions and has studied with Sufi and Qigong masters. LisaMaria has led workshops, classes and ceremonies throughout the US; she’s an award-winning world music and dance producer, performer and educator, and her acclaimed 18-woman drum and dance ensemble Obini Ashe (“the power of women”) was the first of its kind. She recently sang at the UN for the closing ceremony of the Week of Spirituality.
Love offering: $20 – no one turned away.
This group usually meets at Unity on the first Wednesday of every month. Facilitated by Marjie Gallo, Suzanne Crouch and Pamela Schott.
